It starred Robert Conrad as Jesse Hawkes and also starred his two sons, Christian Conrad and Shane Conrad. Robert's daughter Joan was the executive producer. Only 12 episodes were broadcast, from 1/2/1988 until 4/9/1988 on the CBS network.
T.J. Cousins is a mountain man who committed some grisly murders a few years ago. Currently he is in prison. Now a drug dealer also in the same prison hires T.J. to lead him through the Sierras. Now the "High Mountain Rangers" a group who's assigned the task of bringing T.J. and the other escapees back, are on the case but T.J. proves to be too wily for them, and kills one of them. So Matt Hawkes, one of the rangers, decides to get help from the man who caught T.J., his father, Jesse Hawkes.
Now it seems that Hawkes felt that T.J. should have been executed but that sentenced was reduced to life imprisonment, so he left the rangers and lives in a cabin up in the mountains. Jesse at first decides not to do it but eventually changes his mind. But as I said T.J. is too wily. And he also wants to get his hands on Hawkes

The High Mountain Rangers go head to head with three escaped prisoners, one of whom is the mortal enemy of Jesse Hawkes, the man who created the Rangers. Meanwhile, one of the Rangers and Jesse's younger son go searching for the survivors of a downed airplane. Three men break out of Folsom prison, including serial killer T.J. Cousins. The High Mountain Rangers are called in to investigate after a body is found and a camper has been stolen from the victim. The police believe it is the work of Cousins. 02. THE ONLY PLACE TO LIVE
An earthquake hits the Tahoe area, and Jesse and Cody must convince an old man and his granddaughter to leave the mountain for safer shelter while the rangers try to rescue some spelunkers trapped in a cave.
03. OLD FRIENDS, NEW FRIENDS
Jesse's old friend Buck Dawkins comes to Tahoe with his daughter, Haley. The Rangers are sent to find Buck because he's been charged with kidnapping Haley. Cody leads the Rangers on a wild goose chase.
04. JESSE'S CHARGED WITH MURDER
T.J. Cousins' brother Bernie presses murder charges against Jesse, who goes to trial because there is a lot of money missing. One of Matt's rescues takes Jesse's case. Cody and Robin search for evidence to clear Jesse.
05. WASHOUT
Roy Culhane, a former Ranger prospect, returns to Tahoe after being released from prison with a vendetta against the Rangers and Matt Hawkes.
06. CROSS-SIERRA RUN
When a blizzard hits during the midst of a race, the Rangers search for missing runners, and Jesse helps an injured runner cross the finish line.
07. THE ASSASSIN
The Rangers are assigned the duty of keeping a visiting ambassador and his new wife safe while they're on their honeymoon.
08.SACRED GROUND
The Hawkes help Frank Avila and some of their friends search for a missing burial ground that will prove the land belongs to the Native Americans and save it from developers.
09. THE BEAR
Cody meets a camping family with a number of hearing- and speaking-impaired teenagers. When a bear invades the campsite, two of the girls disappear, and Cody and the Rangers work to track the girls down before hunters enrage the now-wounded bear into becoming an even greater threat.
10. JESSE'S SHOT BY HUNTERS
Lonely after Cody goes to Tahoe to stay with Jackie for a while, Jesse goes into the mountains, where he's shot by a pair of drunken hunters
11. DEFECTION OF RUSSIAN SKIER
During an international ski race in which Matt Hawkes is competing, one of the skiers, a Russian woman, skis off the course and disappears. Her KGB bodyguards and the Rangers search for the woman, who is saved from a potentially rabid wolf by Jesse Hawkes.
12. ANNIVERSARY CHOPPER CRASH
During an anniversary celebration at Jackie's for his parents, Matt is called away for a rescue mission of two missing skiers. After Matt and Avila find them safe and sound, their chopper crashes, and an avalanche complicates their own rescue.
13. WARGAMES
A family on vacation in the mountains is playing wargames with paint pellets, but one of them uses real ammo to kill a member of their party. Cody sees and escapes back to the cabin, but the family chases after him and lays seige to the cabin. Jesse sends Cody to climb down Dead Drop Wall, the only way to catch the Rangers, who are out of Tahoe doing mountain maneuvers.
